Morphology General Habit
Perennial. Rhizomes elongated; leptomorph. Culms erect; woody. Culm-internodes terete; thin-walled. Lateral branches dendroid. Branch complement one, or two, or three. Culm-sheaths persistent, or tardily deciduous. Leaves cauline. Ligule an eciliate membrane. Leaf-blade base with a brief petiole-like connection to sheath. Leaf-blades lanceolate. Leaf-blade surface glabrous. Leaf-blade apex acuminate.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Inflorescences
Inflorescence composed of racemes. Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Inflorescences Spikelets
Spikelets comprising 4 fertile florets; with diminished florets at the apex. Spikelets linear; laterally compressed; 10-50 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret. Rhachilla internodes 5-6 mm long.
Fertile
Spikelets comprising 4 fertile florets; with diminished florets at the apex. Spikelets linear; laterally compressed; 10-50 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret. Rhachilla internodes 5-6 mm long.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Inflorescences Bracts Glume
Glumes two; persistent; similar; shorter than spikelet.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Flowers Florets
Fertile lemma ovate; 8 mm long; chartaceous; without keel. Lemma apex acute. Palea 1 length of lemma. Palea keels ciliolate. Apical sterile florets resembling fertile though underdeveloped.
