Morphology General Habit
Perennial or shrubby herb to 2 m tall; young branches subglabrous to sericeous-pubescent.

Leaves subglabrous to puberulous, sessile (rarely with petiole to 5(15) mm); lamina pandurate to elliptic-pandurate, largest 8–22 × 2–8.5 cm; apex acuminate to subacute; base auriculate, clasping stem.

Inflorescence 3–22(33) cm long; peduncle 4–25 mm long; axis sericeous-puberulous, with few to many stalked capitate glands; bracts ovate (lower) to elliptic, acute to acuminate (or lowermost rounded) with straight mucro 1–2 mm, 13–30 × 7–22 mm, upper puberulous or densely so, usually with dense stalked capitate glands, indistinctly ciliate; bracteoles 1.5–3.5(6.5) mm long; flowers solitary or in 3s at lower nodes.
