Shrub or more usually liane, up to 25 m. high.

Stems purple-brown, striate and densely red-brown-pubescent when young, becoming terete, without noticeable lenticels.

Leaf-lamina dull green above, paler below, (2·4)4–13(17) × (1·6)2·2–6·9 (8–7) cm., elliptic to oblong or obovate, very shortly obtusely acuminate to rounded at the apex, with the margin entire or very shallowly serrulate or crenulate, broadly cuneate to subcordate at the base, papyraceous to subcoriaceous, ± sparsely pubescent below when young, glabrescent, with c. 7 lateral nerves and venation more prominent below than above; petiole 3–7 mm. long; stipules c. 1 mm. long, linear-lanceolate, entire, pubescent, ± persistent, not usually united by transverse ridges.

Flowers 10 — ?, in rather dense or lax pedunculate simple or compound terminal and axillary dichasia; buds 2·5–3 mm. long, conic to acicular; pedicels 0·5–2 mm. long, pubescent; bracts 0·5–2 mm. long, triangular, acute, eventually deciduous.
