Morphology General Habit
Perennial herb from a short rhizome, with spreading fleshy roots 2–5 mm in diameter, and several thin fibrous roots.

Leaves linear, terete, up to 38 cm long, 4–7 mm wide, hollow, expanding at the base into a tubular sheath, the outer leaves reduced to membranous sheaths up to 6 cm long.

Peduncle at anthesis up to 22 cm long, ± 3 mm wide, shorter than the leaves; raceme at anthesis ± 4 cm long, ± 2 cm in diameter; bracts cuspidate, up to 10 mm long, 2–3 mm wide at the base, attenuate into a filiform apex, membranous and transparent except for a brown midrib; pedicels 2–4 mm long, overtopped by the bracts at anthesis, recurved after flowering and extending up to 22 mm in fruit.
