The native range of this species is N. Nigeria to Eritrea and Kenya, S. Arabian Peninsula. It is a scrambling shrub or tree and grows primarily in the seasonally dry tropical biome.

Slender often scrambling shrub or small tree 0.8–5 m. tall; stems puberulous; bark light brown on older stems breaking into fibrous strips.

Leaves shortly petiolate, opposite or sometimes in 3’s (fide F.P.S.), lanceolate, (1–)4–7(–12.5) cm. long, 0.4–3.5 cm. wide, acuminate at the apex, cuneate to rounded or subcordate at the base, glabrous, puberulous or pubescent on the venation beneath but not densely tomentose.
