Perennial herb, woody at the base, forming a rosette or mat with prostrate or suberect branched stems 7–40 cm. long, densely strigose with white adpressed hairs or sometimes glabrescent.

Leaves alternate, elliptic, oblong or oblanceolate, 0.4–1.7 cm. long, 1.5–6(–8) mm. wide, acute at the apex, cuneate at the base, entire, strigose-pubescent with adpressed tubercle-based hairs each surrounded by a zone of cystoliths.

Flowers solitary, supra-axillary at the ends of leafy branches; pedicels 0.2–0.3 mm. long, pubescent.

Calyx funnel-shaped, divided to near the base; lobes lanceolate, subequal, 2.8–4.2 mm. long, 0.7–0.9 mm. wide, or unequal with 1 or sometimes 2 much larger 5–5.5 mm. long, 1.2–1.6 mm. wide, acute, sparsely strigose outside, ciliate at the base.

Corolla yellow or white with a yellow throat, funnel-shaped or subrotate, sparsely pubescent outside, glabrous inside; tube 3–5 mm. long; lobes broadly triangular, 1–1.5 mm. long, 1–1.2 mm. wide, rounded at the apex, sometimes alternating with minute teeth.

Note
The two varieties of Heliotropum baclei (Heliotropum baclei var. baclei, Heliotropum baclei var. rostratum) are only distinguishable by the key-characters provided in the key.
