Morphology General Habit
Annual or perennial (fide Greenway) with dense tufted stems and shallow roots.

Stems 3–20 together, 4–15 cm long excluding the inflorescence bract (which adds another 15–40 cm), round or 3-angular, 1–2 mm thick

Leaf sheaths green, much wider than the stem, ending in a triangular lobe; often with solitary basal flower, nutlet to 2.6 × 2.3 mm Leaves absent.
