The native range of this species is SE. South Sudan to S. Africa. It is a bulbous geophyte and grows primarily in the seasonally dry tropical biome.

- Scape 5–25 cm long with a large roundish inflorescence; spathe valves 4–9 × 1–3.8 cm, erect in young inflorescences.
