Annual herb, up to 15 cm. high, much branched from the base to the apex.

Stem 4-gonous in the lower part, 4-winged upwards; branches numerous, slender, 4-winged, the wings slightly scabrous, the lower branches decumbent, the upper ones ± ascending.

Leaves 5–22 x 1–2·5 mm., decussate, linear, ± curved, obtuse at the apex, margin involute, slightly to broadly auriculate at the base, 1-nerved, the nerve impressed above, prominent beneath.
