Morphology General Habit
Aquatic herb with elongate rhizome 1–2 cm. thick.
Morphology Leaves
Leaves 8–24 cm. broad, submerged or rarely some of them floating (fide A. A. Bullock), thinly papyraceous, bilobed-divaricate, cordate at the base, retuse at the apex, with a ± narrow isthmus along the midrib, slightly or not peltate, margin entire, smooth on both surfaces, primary lateral nerves 5–6 on each side of the midrib, 1–2 pairs of secondary nerves arising from the midrib (or absent).

Flowers blue or pink (yellow in specimens from Angola), 4–10 cm. in diam., floating or slightly emergent.
