Subshrub 30–35 cm tall with smooth brown branches.

Leaves coriaceous, obovate, 13–15 cm long, 6–8 cm wide, ± rounded at the apex, narrowly cuneate at the base, regularly spinulose-serrate, shiny on both sides; lateral veins 15–20, ± at right angles to midrib together with very numerous transverse tertiary veinlets, very prominent above, less so beneath; petiole 2–3 mm long and thick.

Flowers few at apices of branches, often forming paniculiform clusters; pedicels ± 1 cm long.
