The native range of this species is S. DR Congo to Angola. It is a tuberous geophyte and grows primarily in the seasonally dry tropical biome.

Morphology General Habit
Terrestrial herb with separate fertile and sterile shoots.

Sterile shoots up to 5 cm tall; leaves up to 5, erect, conduplicate, up to 11 × 1.5 cm, linear to elliptic, acute. Fertile shoots 25–50 cm tall; cauline leaves imbricate, 4–7 cm long, ovate-lanceolate, acute to subacuminate, sheathing, apices free; basal leaves reduced to several subacute sheaths c. 3 cm long.
Sterile
Sterile shoots up to 5 cm tall; leaves up to 5, erect, conduplicate, up to 11 × 1.5 cm, linear to elliptic, acute.
Fertile
