Terrestrial herb with separate fertile and sterile shoots.

Fertile shoots 25–50 cm tall; cauline leaves imbricate, 4–7 cm long, ovate-lanceolate, acute to subacuminate, sheathing, apices free; basal leaves reduced to several subacute sheaths c. 3 cm long.
