General Description

A terrestrial herb with clustered growths. Leaves 4–6, oblong-elliptic to ellipticoblanceolate, acute to obtuse at tridenticulate apex, 10–16 cm long, 2.6–5 cm wide, sparsely ciliate at base, mottled pale and darker green above, tinged purple at base below. Inflorescence 1-flowered, erect; peduncle 20–32 cm long, purple, shortly pubescent; bract ovate-lanceolate, subacute, 2–3 cm long, pubescent, ciliate. Flower 7–9 cm across; sepals white at base, pale purple and green above, with purple veins; petals white, heavily spotted and veined dark purple; lip dark brownish-purple; pedicel and ovary 6–8 cm long, purple-pubescent. Dorsal sepal ovate, acute or acuminate, 3.8–5.8 cm long, 3–5.1 cm wide, ciliate. Synsepal elliptic-ovate, subacute, 2.5–3.2 cm long, 1.8–2.2 cm wide. Petals slightly falcate, oblanceolate, subacute to obtuse, 5–7.2 cm long, 1.4–1.9 cm wide, ciliate, warted on upper margin. Lip 4.5–6 cm long, 3–3.6 cm wide, warted on incurved side-lobes. Staminode transversely reniform, shallowly 3-lobed at apex, narrowly incised at base, 12–14 mm long, 6–7 mm wide. 2n = 32.

Philippines: Mindanao, Camiguin, Dinagat and possibly Luzon (see Romero-Price 1973 and Valmayor 1984); 300–1830 m altitude.
