Distribution

Borneo, Sabah only; 300–1450 m altitude.

General Description

A terrestrial herb with one to several clustered growths. Leaves 4–6, oblonglanceolate, obtuse and minutely bidenticulate at apex, up to 21 cm long, 5 cm wide, margins towards apex minutely serrate, tessellated dark and light yellow- or bluish-green. Inflorescence 1-flowered; peduncle 20–34 cm long, maroon, densely purple-pubescent; bract lanceolate, acute, up to 2.5 cm long, pale green, pubescent. Flowers up to 15.6 cm across, sepals white veined green, petals purplish, lip deep maroon and staminode green with darker veins; ovary up to 7 cm long, dull green, pubescent. Dorsal sepal ovate, acuminate, 5–6 cm long, 3–3.8 cm wide, ciliate. Synsepal ovate, acute, 4.5–5 cm long, 2 cm wide. Petals oblanceolate-spathulate, obtuse to acute, up to 7–8.5 1.5–1.8 cm, purple-ciliate. Lip 5–6.6 cm long, 2–2.9 cm wide, with a ciliate apical margin; side-lobes incurved, warted. Staminode transversely ellipticreniform, shortly apiculate, 6–8 mm long, 13 mm wide. 2n = 34, 36.
