General Description

A terrestrial herb with clustered growths. Leaves 6–7, elliptic to oblong-elliptic, obtuse and minutely tridentate at apex, up to 11 cm long, 3–3.9 cm wide, margins ciliate near base, mottled dark and pale green above, heavily purple-spotted below. Inflorescence 1- but commonly 2- flowered; peduncle up to 22 cm long, purple, white-hirsute; bracts elliptic to ovate, 1.2–1.5 cm long, 1 cm wide, green, spotted with purple, shortly pubescent. Flowers attractive, 7.5–8 cm in diameter, pink or pale pink with red and yellow markings on staminode, pubescent both within and without; pedicel and ovary up to 5.5 cm long, purple, hirsute. Dorsal sepal ovate, obtuse to subacute, 1.7–3.5 cm long, 1.8–2.5 cm wide. Synsepal similar, 1.9–3 cm long, 1.4–2.9 cm wide. Petals broadly elliptic, obtuse or rounded at apex, 3–4.2 cm long, 2.4–3.8 cm wide. Lip ellipsoidal to subglobose, 2.5–3.8 cm long, 2.5–3 cm wide, margins incurved, minutely pubescent. Staminode somewhat convex, ovate, obtuse, 14–17 mm long, 13–16 mm wide, ciliate. 2n = 26.
