The native range of this species is Zimbabwe (Chimanimani Mountains). It is a tuberous geophyte and grows primarily in the subtropical biome.

Basal leaves 2, appressed to the ground, 5–9 × 5–7 cm, ovate or ± orbicular, apiculate, rather fleshy; stem with 8–10 sheathing, imbricate leaves c. 7–8 cm long.
