Perennial 10–30 cm. tall with a woody rootstock; stems glabrous or nearly so, slightly winged.

Leaves 10–25 x 1.5–4 mm., linear-lanceolate or linear-elliptic, sometimes suborbicular towards the base of the stem, glabrous, usually rounded at the apex, but sometimes acute, mucronate.

Flowers blue or greenish-blue, pedicels 1.5–2.5 mm. long, in terminal or lateral racemes usually 3–7 cm. long, occasionally longer, with glabrous rhachis, small caducous bracts 1 mm. long and bracteoles 0.5 mm. long.
