Distribution
A genus of about five species distributed across SW & C Asia; the limits of species are poorly defined and the subshrubby species might be seen as elements of a polymorphic complex that needs further investigations.
Etymology
Noaea (following Fl. SSSR vol. 6) commemorates Frank, Vicomte de Noë, born Friedrich Wilhelm Noë (1798–1858), German botanist and pharmacist at Fiume (now Rijeka) who became the director of a Botanic Garden in Istanbul (Nehmé 2000). He was a major contributor of specimens from Turkey and Iraq to Boissier’s herbarium in Geneva.)
