Morphology General Habit
A many-stemmed shrub up to 1·20 m. high; stems woody, cylindric, thick, densely spreading, yellowish-hairy.

Leaves alternate or rarely subopposite; petiole (0·6) 1–2 cm. long, subterete, thick, densely yellowish-patent-hairy; lamina light green and usually shining above, paler and dull below, 7·5–20 × 4–12·3 cm., usually broadly elliptic or obovate or rarely oblong, obtuse, rounded, truncate or emarginate and mucronate at the apex, bullate towards the margin and with a much thickened, bone-coloured and undulate or crisped margin, rounded or somewhat acute at the base, very coriaceous, glabrous or with patent, weak, sparse hairs above, and with a double indumentum (very short appressed whitish hairs on the lamina and long patent yellowish hairs mainly on the nerves and reticulation, not concealing the short ones) below; midrib impressed above, very prominent beneath; lateral nerves (0·3) 0·5–1·2 cm. apart, at an angle of 53°–75° with the midrib, forked near the margin, pale and prominulous above, rather prominent below, tertiary nerves very oblique; reticulation impressed above, rather prominent beneath.
