Morphology General Habit
Suffrutex up to 1·5 m. tall with woody rootstock and creeping roots; stems sparsely branched, ± dark brown, terete, sometimes angulate at the upper part, striate, ± pilose to glabrescent.

Leaves alternate or opposite or the uppermost ones subverticillate; petiole 0·1–1·2 cm. long, grooved above, ± densely and subappressed-fulvous-hairy; lamina discolorous, green or reddish or pale to dark brown and glabrous above, silvery- or pale-fulvous-sericeous beneath (densely covered with appressed whitish or yellowish usually somewhat long hairs but sometimes short, not so dense on the midrib), (5·5) 8–18 × 1·5–5·5 cm., elliptic or oblong to oblong-lanceolate or lanceolate, acute or subobtuse and mucronate at the apex, acute or subobtuse at the base, subcoriaceous to coriaceous; midrib impressed above, much raised and yellowish beneath; lateral nerves slender, straight, almost at right angles to the midrib or rather oblique, forked near the margin, 2–3 mm. apart, slightly raised on the upper surface, ± prominent beneath; tertiary nerves and veins ± raised below.

Inflorescences congested, axillary in the uppermost leaf-axils, shorter than the leaves, and also terminal, arranged in whorls, with the axis and the very short branches subappressed-fulvous-hairy.
