Morphology General Habit
Many-stemmed suffrutex; stems unbranched, brownish, tufted from a woody underground rootstock, up to 1 m. tall, cylindric, striate, puberulous.

Leaves in whorls of 5–10 or subverticillate, the basal ones alternate; petiole 1–6 mm. long; lamina discolorous, glabrous, almost black (when dried) and shining above and silvery-sericeous below (covered by short appressed whitish hairs), 2·5–16 × 0·1–0·2 cm., acicular, upright, the floral ones somewhat falcate, very rigid, acute and mucronate, with the margins revolute; midrib impressed on the upper surface yellowish-appressed-pubescent, and very prominent beneath; lateral nerves and reticulation not visible on either surface.
