- Large shrub or small tree (1.5)3–12 m high.

- Young stems dark, shiny and wrinkled when dry, older stems covered with pale corky bark.

- Leaves 6.5–20(27) × 1.7–9(12.5) cm, oblong or oblanceolate-oblong to elliptic-obovate, sharply acuminate at the apex, cuneate at the base, thinly coriaceous, glabrous; venation obscure above; petiole 0.5–1.3 cm long; stipules 1–1.8 cm long, subulate, attenuate from a triangular base.
