This species is accepted, and its native range is W. Tropical Africa to Uganda and N. Angola. It is used as a medicine and for food.

Tree up 20 m. or sometimes a bush 3–8 m. tall; young branches thick, glabrous, covered with light brown shiny bark.

Leaf-blades narrowly obovate to obovate or elliptic to broadly elliptic, 14–38 cm. long, 5.5–20.5 cm. wide, rounded, obtuse, rounded and then shortly acuminate or rarely acute at apex, acute to cuneate at base, stiffly papery to moderately coriaceous; dull to shiny above, somewhat undulate; lateral nerves (7–)8–13 main pairs; domatia frequently situated across the base of the lateral nerves or occasionally in the axil, glabrous to sparsely pubescent; petiole 0.8–2 cm. long; stipules triangular-ovate or sometimes almost truncate, 2–4.5 mm. long, obtuse or sometimes acute.
