Morphology General Habit
Shrub or tree, 3–5 m. tall, glabrous; young branches covered with light rusty-brown or occasionally creamish coloured bark.

Leaves usually restricted to new growth; blades broadly elliptic, sometimes round or rarely elliptic, 5.4–13.8 cm. long, 2.2–7.8 cm. wide, obtuse to acute or slightly acuminate at apex, acute to obtuse at base, papery, dull or rarely somewhat shiny above, nerves raised on both faces, often undulate at margin with a marginal nerve; domatia pubescent with cavity partly defined; petioles 3–6 mm. long; stipules triangular, 2–3 mm. long, acute or more often shortly apiculate.

Flowers precocious, 7–8-merous, borne on older stems, usually at nodes from which the leaves have been shed, 2–5 per axil, often borne in fascicled inflorescences; peduncle not exceeding 2 mm. long; inflorescence-stalks compact in flowering stage; bracteoles usually 2, slightly lobed; scale-like bracteoles present on the pedicels.
