Perennial; caespitose; clumped loosely. Culms geniculately ascending; 20-60 cm long. Lateral branches lacking. Leaf-sheaths glabrous on surface. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 2-5 mm long. Leaf-blades 3-7 cm long; 1-3 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface scabrous.
