Perennial. Culms geniculately ascending; 20-40 cm long. Lateral branches lacking. Leaf-sheaths longer than adjacent culm internode; glabrous on surface. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 7-8 mm long; pubescent on abaxial surface; lacerate. Leaf-blades 6-8 cm long; 2.5-3 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface scaberulous. Leaf-blade apex acute.

Inflorescence a panicle. Panicle open; lanceolate; 13 cm long; 3 cm wide. Primary panicle branches ascending, or spreading; bearing spikelets almost to the base. Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled.
