Shrubby herb to 1 m tall with several stems from woody rootstock; stems often straggling or decumbent and rooting, when young glabrous to finely sericeous on two sides and often with broad glossy retrorse hairs on edges, later with bark peeling in papery strips

Leaves elliptic or obovate to suborbicular, largest (1.7–)2–4.5 × 1.5–2.7 cm, usually less than twice as long as wide, apex subacute to truncate, base attenuate to cuneate, decurrent to an indistinct petiole to 3 mm long which has long (to 1.5 mm) glossy hairs on edges, glabrous or with scattered broad glossy hairs along midrib, larger veins and on edges, margin crenate to dentate; stipule sheath to 1 mm long

Note
Differs from the closely related D. crenatum in the larger corolla with longer tube, in the few-flowered cymes and in the smaller and wider often suborbicular leaves.
