Morphology General Habit
Annual; caespitose. Basal innovations intravaginal. Culms erect; 35-55 cm long. Leaf-sheath oral hairs ciliate. Ligule a fringe of hairs. Collar pilose. Leaf-blades 9-13 cm long; 1-2 mm wide.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Inflorescences
Inflorescence a panicle. Panicle open; oblong; 20-23 cm long; 5-7 cm wide. Primary panicle branches appressed, or ascending; 1-5 -nate; 5-8 cm long. Panicle branches scaberulous; bearded in axils. Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled. Pedicels 6-13 mm long.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Inflorescences Spikelets
Spikelets comprising 4-14 fertile florets; with diminished florets at the apex. Spikelets linear, or oblong; laterally compressed; 4-5 mm long; 1-1.5 mm wide; breaking up at maturity; rhachilla persistent; shedding paleas. Rhachilla internodes obscured by lemmas, or eventually visible between lemmas.
Fertile
Spikelets comprising 4-14 fertile florets; with diminished florets at the apex. Spikelets linear, or oblong; laterally compressed; 4-5 mm long; 1-1.5 mm wide; breaking up at maturity; rhachilla persistent; shedding paleas. Rhachilla internodes obscured by lemmas, or eventually visible between lemmas.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Inflorescences Bracts Glume
Glumes deciduous; similar; shorter than spikelet. Lower glume ovate; 0.5-0.6 mm long; 0.5 length of upper glume; hyaline; without keels; 0 -veined. Lower glume lateral veins absent. Lower glume apex acute. Upper glume ovate; 1.1-1.2 mm long; 0.6 length of adjacent fertile lemma; hyaline; 0(-1) -veined. Upper glume lateral veins absent. Upper glume apex acute.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Flowers Florets
Fertile lemma ovate; 1.7-2 mm long; membranous; keeled; 3 -veined. Lemma apex acute. Palea keels scaberulous. Apical sterile florets resembling fertile though underdeveloped.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Flowers
Anthers 3; 0.2 mm long.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Fruits
Caryopsis with adherent pericarp; ellipsoid; laterally compressed; without sulcus; 0.7-0.8 mm long; dark brown.
Distribution
Asia-tropical: Malesia.
