Annual or perennial erect herbs, 15–20 cm. tall with few to many robust stems from a robust, woody, rarely ± fleshy subterranean rhizome-like base; stems either ± sparsely beset with white papillae or ± glabrous.

Leaves (22)31–46(55) x (1)1.4–4(8) mm. narrowly elliptic to broadly lanceolate, apex acute, narrowed to the base; lower midrib and upper surfaces ± sparsely covered with long white hairs or papillae, otherwise glabrous; stipular sheath (1.4)2.4–4.3(5) mm. long, ± densely pubescent with long white hairs, bearing 2–6 fimbriae (1.9)3.2–6.7(7.8) mm. long.
