Morphology General Habit
Shrub 1–1.6(6) m tall, or less often a shrubby tree to 6 m tall; young branches glabrous; older branches slender, covered with mid-brown bark.
Morphology Leaves
Leaf blades 8–18 × 2.5–5.8 cm, narrowly elliptic or elliptic, acuminate at the apex, acuminate to attenuate at the base, drying black, shiny above, glabrous; lateral nerves in 7–8 main pairs; domatia small, pubescent; bacterial nodules dot-like or elliptic; petiole 0.5–2.5 cm long, glabrous; stipule limbs truncate, c. 2 mm long, bearing a slender almost filiform lobe up to 6 mm long, glabrous outside, dark or with only the margin chaffy when dry, persistent.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Flowers
Flowers not scented.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Inflorescences
Inflorescences moderately lax, 2–3.5 cm across (excluding the corollas); primary inflorescence branches 3–8 mm long, glabrous; secondary to tertiary branches present; pedicels 2–4 mm long, glabrous; bracts 2.5–3 mm long, stipule-like, drying dark with chaffy margin; bracteoles inconspicuous. Inflorescence-supporting branches slender, 5.5–12.2 cm long, bearing 1(2) pairs of immature or sometimes mature leaves.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Flowers Calyx
Calyx tube 1–1.25 mm long, glabrous; limb-tube 1–1.25 mm long, somewhat wider than the tube, glabrous; lobes 1.5–3 mm long, well spaced.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Flowers Corolla
Corolla tube slightly longer than lobes, 11–12 mm long, c. 1.25 mm wide at the top, glabrous outside, usually pubescent (but not bearded) at the throat; lobes 9–11 × 1.5–3 mm, oblong, acute.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Fruits
Fruit black, shiny, 8–9 mm in diameter; pedicels slightly accrescent; calyx limb persistent.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Seeds
Well formed seeds not seen.
