Morphology General Habit
Perennial herb with a rosette of basal leaves and an erect flowering stem 0.3–1.5 m high; stem deeply furrowed, pilose, pubescent in the branched (inflorescence) part.

Basal leaves appressed to the ground (the lowermost) to suberect, petiolate, petiole to 10 cm long, blade elliptic, 15–45 cm long, 7–26 cm wide, base cuneate, margin sinuate-crenate, apex rounded, scabrid-pilose above with tubercle-based hairs, hirsute-pilose beneath; cauline leaves sessile, much smaller, 4–13 cm long, 2–3 cm wide, with semi-amplexicaul base.

Capitula 2.2–4 cm long, heterogamous, solitary or up to 4 together in leafy corymbs; stalks of individual capitula densely hirsute; phyllaries ovate to lanceolate, 1–2.5 cm long, acute, densely pubescent.

Florets yellow; ray florets bright yellow, tube cylindric, 6–7.5 mm long, limb 8–14 mm long, 1.5–2 mm wide, glandular beneath, style 6.5–9 mm long; inner florets cylindric, 7–7.5 mm long, lobes 0.5–0.7 mm long, glandular; anthers 4.2–4.3 mm long with long tails, style 8–8.8 mm long.
