Perennial; caespitose; clumped densely. Basal innovations intravaginal. Culms 30-60 cm long; 0.5-1 mm diam.; 3 -noded. Culm-nodes purple. Lateral branches lacking. Leaves mostly basal. Leaf-sheaths smooth, or scaberulous; glabrous on surface. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 2.5-3.5 mm long. Leaf-blades filiform; conduplicate; 7-15 cm long; 0.6-1 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface ribbed; scaberulous; rough abaxially.
