This species is accepted
The native range of this species is Mexico, Caribbean, Colombia to N. South America. It is a rhizomatous geophyte and grows primarily in the wet tropical biome. It is has environmental uses, as a medicine and for food.

Brazil North, Colombia, Dominican Republic, French Guiana, Guyana, Haiti, Leeward Is., Mexico Central, Mexico Gulf, Mexico Southeast, Mexico Southwest, Puerto Rico, Suriname, Trinidad-Tobago, Venezuela, Windward Is.

Hawaii, Jamaica, Thailand
