The native range of this species is Europe to Central Asia and W. Himalaya, Canary Islands to N. Somalia. It is an annual and grows primarily in the temperate biome.

Distribution
Native at least in Europe, West Asia and North Africa, but now almost cosmopolitan as a weed.
