The native range of this species is Europe to Central Asia and W. Himalaya, Canary Islands to N. Somalia. It is an annual and grows primarily in the temperate biome.

- Distribution
- Native at least in Europe, West Asia and North Africa, but now almost cosmopolitan as a weed.

- Annual herb; stems ± prostrate, up to 30 cm long, pubescent

- Leaves petiolate; blades ovate, 5–15 x 3–12 mm, deeply crenate-serrate

- Flowers solitary in leaf axils; pedicels 5–15 mm long, usually recurved in fruit
