The native range of this species is Indian Subcontinent to W. & Central Malesia. It is a tree and grows primarily in the seasonally dry tropical biome.

Originally from India but long cultivated in East Africa, largely in the botanic gardens of Entebbe (Chandler 1423), Nairobi, Amani and Dar-es-Salaam (Chilongola 120).
