General Description
Small climbing plant tightly pressed on rocks or on tree trunks up to 0.5-1 m from the ground; Roots, stem, peduncles and lower surface of the leaves on the veins and veinlets pubescent; Numerous anchor roots 1-5 cm, strongly attached to the support; Internodes 2-6 cm; Numerous nodes without leaves. LEAVES: Petiole very short 2-3 cm; Sheath 0.5-1 cm, auriculate at the apex with wings flat then recurved; Blade 9-18 x 5-9.5 cm, ovate, elliptic to sublanceolate, base slightly cordate, apex obtuse or broadly acuminate; Numerous primary lateral veins arcuate ascending, the upper ones ± joining to form a collective vein; Very attenuate network of secondary veins and veinlets; Numerous glandular dashes and some minute dots in the parenchyma; sparse circular excressences on the lower surface of the blade. INFLORESCENCES terminal, 1-3, generally solitary; Peduncle 1.5-4.5 cm; Spathe white or orangish-green, ca. 3 cm, fusiform, long acuminate, scattered with small whitish glands when dry; Ovary unilocular, globose; Stigma circular; 1 ovule, basal, campylotropous. INFRUCTESCENCE: Berries red.
Distribution
Cameroon, Gabon, Zaire (Mayombe). In Cameroon, this species, rare, occurs in the regions of East, Yaoundé and Kribi.
