[FZ]

Crassulaceae, R. Fernandes. Flora Zambesiaca 7:1. 1983

Morphology General
Very similar to C. alba (No. 15) but differing vegetatively in the more numerous, denser and more persistent basal leaves which become coriaceous with age, the oldest ones drying and disintegrating to leave a proximal stub; in the stem indumentum which usually consists of very short, bulliform papillae; in the shorter (up to 0·5 cm. long) cauline leaf-sheaths; and in the usually shorter cauline leaves of which the uppermost rarely exceed the internodes.
Morphology Reproductive morphology
Distinguishing features of the reproductive plant include denser, hemispherical to subspherical, not flat-topped, inflorescences, and smaller flowers and fruits. Thus, calyx (1)1·25-2-5(3) mm. long, usually less than half as long as corolla, with triangular or ovate-lanceolate sepals less acute than in C. alba and marginal cilia absent or present and then small and few; corolla 2·5-3·5(4) mm. long, carmine or purple; stamens with filaments 1·75-2·25 mm. and anthers 0·5 mm. long. According to Tölken (tom. cit.: 365 et 368, 1977) the ovary in C. similis contains 8-10 ovules compared with 14-30 in C. alba.
