Morphology General Habit
Rhizomatous suffrutex 0.3-0.4(-2) m. tall; branchlets pilose with long hairs 2-3 mm. long.

Leaves obovate, 2.5-10.5 cm. long, 1.5-6.5 cm. wide, cuspidate or shortly obtusely acuminate at the apex, rounded to subcordate at the base, pilose and ciliate with long hairs 2-3 mm. long; lateral nerves in 5-6 pairs, prominent beneath; tertiary nerves and veins often red, closely reticulate, not so prominent but darker than surface beneath; petiole ± 5 mm. long often together with lower 2/3 of midrib on both surfaces bright red in life.

Female flowers solitary or in 2-flowered cymules, 5-merous; pedicels 0.8-1.2 cm. long; bracts linear, 2 mm. long; calyx 2 mm. long; calyx-lobes triangular, 1.5 mm. long, tomentellous inside, glabrous outside except for a few minute glandular hairs; margins densely ciliolate; corolla dark with pale margin in dry state, 3.5 mm. long, glabrous save for a few minute hairs; corolla-lobes ± rounded-oblong, 2-3 mm. long, 2.3 mm. wide.
