Culm-sheaths deciduous; hispid; hairy at the base; with appressed hairs; with tawny hairs; convex at apex; auriculate; with unequal auricles; with 15 mm wide auricles; setose on shoulders. Culm-sheath ligule 7 mm high; dentate, or ciliolate. Culm-sheath blade ovate, or triangular; erect. Leaves cauline. Ligule an eciliate membrane. Collar with external ligule. Leaf-blade base with a brief petiole-like connection to sheath. Leaf-blades lanceolate; 10-20 cm long; 15-20 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface pubescent; densely hairy; hairy abaxially. Leaf-blade margins scabrous. Leaf-blade apex acuminate.
