Morphology General Habit
Erect herb to 30 cm. tall; stems annual from a tuberous rootstock; tubers up to 9 × 3 cm., yellowish; stems and branches glabrous or with a few scattered hairs, cylindric, longitudinally ribbed, internodes 1 to 3·5 cm. long, often zig-zag; tendrils absent.

Leaves simple; petiole up to 1 mm. long, glabrous; leaf-lamina 3·5–6 × 0·5–1·5 cm., very narrowly elliptic to elliptic, margin distantly dentate, glabrous or sometimes with sparse hairs along midrib beneath; stipules 3 × 2 mm., triangular.
