Short-lived perennial herb 15–70 cm tall; stems decumbent, glabrous except sometimes towards the base.

Leaves sessile, green tinged purple; lower broadly ovate, weakly cordate, subrotundate or broadly cuneate and narrowly decurrent onto petioloid base, margins sinuate-serrate, apex rounded; median and upper spatulate, oblanceolate or elliptic-lanceolate, 1.7–4.2 cm long, 0.2–1.3 cm wide, decurrent onto a broadly winged, basally semi-amplexicaul petioloid base; all shortly pubescent beneath, less so to almost glabrous above, purple-tinged.

Capitula 7–10 or more in moderately lax corymbs, discoid; stalks of individual capitula glabrous; involucre cylindrical, 2.5–4.5 mm long, 1–1.5 mm in diameter; phyllaries (5–)8(–10), 3–4 mm long, glabrous.
