Note
All East African material is of subsp. angustissimum. However, some specimens from the southern highlands of Tanzania are anomalous in having fewer flowers per node, less conspicuous indumentum on the corolla lobes and much reduced coronal teeth. They are undoubtedly close to A. angustissimum, perhaps approaching subsp. brevilobum, but the differences are not sufficiently constant to warrant taxonomic recognition.
