Note
Subsp. grandiflorum, with (5–)7–9(–11) leaflets, is widely grown in warm temperate and tropical regions of the world, and is native at least in eastern and southern India (see Green in Kew Bull. 52: 942–944, 1997).

Morphology General Habit
A branched, glabrous, low shrub or scrambler, with slender twig-like branches.

Leaves imparipinnate, typically with 5 leaflets (sometimes up to 9 or reduced to 3), opposite; leaflet blades ovate to elongate-ovate, the lateral sometimes asymmetrical especially at the base, the terminal the larger, ranging considerably in size even in the same leaf, apex of terminal leaflet and sometimes of lateral leaflets long acuminate, of lateral leaflets often acute to obtuse, 0.5–4 cm. long, 0.2–1.7 cm. broad, midrib impressed on upper and prominent on lower surface, lateral veins not conspicuous; petiolule to terminal leaflet 3–6 mm. long, to lateral leaflets 1–3 mm. long.
