- Shrub to 60 cm high, much branched; all parts densely mealy, whitish to silvery, glabrescent with age

- Leaves opposite to subopposite; petiole 2–6 mm; leaf-blade elliptic to oblanceolate, 6–15(–23) x 4–8 mm, base cuneate, tip rounded or apiculate, margin entire

- Inflorescence a terminal few-branched panicle, flowers in ± separated clusters of 1–2 female plus 2–5 male

- Male flowers 1–1.5 mm in diam. Female pedicels 1–2 mm; bracteoles rhomboidal, 5–8 x 3–7 mm, base attenuate into pedicel, joined to just below widest point, tip rounded, margin with 3–6 small rounded teeth each side, at least some develop 1–3 regular, sometimes cylindrical dorsal appendages or tubercles near base, these up to 2 mm long.

- Altitude range 380–610 m.
- Note
- This species has been referred to in herbaria as A. sp. cfr. A. coriacea Forssk. A. coriacea has been recorded from Assab in Eritrea by Beccari, but the record has not been confirmed. A. coriacea is otherwise restricted to the Mediterranean coast of Egypt. It differs from A. nogalensis in the more robust habit, the larger leaves and the wider and denser inflorescences.
