Morphology General Habit
Perennial shrublet to 20 cm high, eventually broader than high; stems much-branched, old stems and main roots with exfoliating papery brown bark, basal stem up to 1 cm or more thick, young shoots minutely but densely papillose.

Leaves alternate, linear, 16–24 mm long, 2 mm wide, succulent with midrib impressed above, papillose, obtuse to subacute; axillary hairs ± 2 mm long, forming a dense white woolly tuft, tufts conspicuous on the older stems after leaf-fall.

Flowers in clusters of up to 5, encircled by 5–8 involucral leaves enclosing white woolly hairs; open only at midday.
