- Erect annual herb, 3.5–13 cm. tall, fibrous rooted; stems simple, glabrous, tufted, not markedly quadrangular.

- Leaves: basal, alternate, crowded, 3–10(15) x c. 1 mm. above, to 2.5 mm. below at sheathing base, linear, subsucculent; cauline 5–15(20) x 0.2–0.5 mm., opposite, narrowly linear, acute, somewhat involute, especially so at base, appearing sheathed, somewhat amplexicaul.
