Perennial herb, rhizomatous, 0.3–1.2 m high; stems erect, sparsely branched, tinged with red, pubescent; leaves mostly (but not all) arranged near base of stem.

Leaves fleshy, narrowly rhomboid to linear, 4–20 cm long, 0.4–4 cm wide, attenuate to a rounded base, sagittate or amplexicaul, margins shallowly dentate, the teeth fewer towards the apex, some teeth pointing backwards, apex attenuate, pubescent.
