Morphology General Habit
Much branched erect or scrambling shrub to 2(?–3) m tall; bark peeling in long papery strips; young branches finely sericeous or sparsely so (rarely finely puberulous), the hairs short and stubby and often slightly curly, no long spreading hairs

Leaves ovate, elliptic or obovate to suborbicular, largest (1.5–)2–6.2(–8.5) × (0.8–)1–4(–6) cm, apex acute to truncate (rarely retuse), with a triangular apical tooth (sometimes recurved), base attenuate to truncate, decurrent to a distinct petiole to 1.3(–2.5) cm long, subglabrous to curly puberulous on both sides (below densest along veins), margin dentate (rarely crenate); stipule sheath to 1 mm long. Flowers in few- to many-flowered (some with 5 or more flowers) condensed dichasial axillary cymes with peduncle and branches 1–3 mm long, indumentum as branches; outer bracts, lanceolate to oblong, to 1.2 cm long; inner bracts to 8 mm long, sparsely curly sericeous-puberulous; bracteoles similar, to 6 mm long. Calyx 4–9(–11 in fruit) mm long, sericeous-puberulous or sparsely so (rarely subglabrous), tube 4–5 mm long; teeth lanceolate to narrowly triangular, acuminate, dorsal 4–5 mm long, ventral 3–5 mm long of which the free part 1–3 mm long
