The native range of this subspecies is S. Venezuela to Guyana and N. Brazil. It is a climber and grows primarily in the wet tropical biome.

General Description
Terrestrial plant. LEAVES: Petiole unknown. Blade large, rigid, thickly coriaceous, elliptic, apec shortly acuminate, subrounded towards the base, the base itself somewhat decurrent, 43 cm long, almost 30 cm wide, primary lateral veins 12-14, impressed above, distinctly prominent below, emerging from the midrib at an angle of ca. 60-70º, ascending arcuately near the margin; midrib robust below, especially towards the base, strongly prominent; secondary veins slender, running parallel to the primary veins. INFLORESCENCE: Peduncle terete, robust, ca. 5 cm long, 5 mm thick when dry. Spathe fleshy, dark brown in dry state, tube broadly ovoid, 5 cm long, 4-5 cm wide, blade narrowly lanceolate, apex shortly acuminate, 10-12 cm long, expanded in the lower part, 3-4 cm wide, attenuate upwards. Spadix shortly stipitate, brown when dry; female zone oblong-elliptic in mature state, ca. 4.5 cm long, almost 3 cm thick; sterile zone short, barely contracted; male zone narrowly conoid, apex acute, ca. 10 cm long, 1-1.2 cm thick at the base, gradually attenuating upwards. Pistils oblong, truncate at the top, with a barely raised stigma, 5-6 mm long, 2 mm wide; ovules numerous. Male flowers usually 4-5-androus; stamens prismatic, truncate at the top, 3-4 mm long.
