Note
A collection from Kenya, Chyulu Hills, Luke 1104, has a laxer inflorescence and smaller flowers, but falls within the range of this taxon. A polymorphic species not clearly defined from V. brevipedicellatum (see note under that species), but worth recognising on account of the larger bracts. Typically in Ethiopia it has toothed calyx lobes as long as the capsule, a character which is seldom linked with the longer bracts elsewhere. The length of the fruiting pedicel is sometimes no longer than the capsules, and it would be interesting to study the correlation of length of the fruiting pedicel with other characters.
